Adult and Family Ministries

Celebrate Recovery
Our church has launched a ministry called Celebrate Recovery to help people in our community overcome their addictive behaviors.
Celebrate Recovery Schedule: Every Tuesday Night
6:30  Dinner
7:00  Praise and Worship
7:30  Small Groups
8:30  "The Crossing" Fellowship Time

On September 8th, 2009, Saraland UMC started Celebrate Recovery Ministry (CR). What a blessing it has been! We average between 34 to 45 in attendance each week. And there is plenty of room for more. If you or someone you know has a hurt, habit or hang up and is searching for recovery over it, please come and be a part of Celebrate Recovery or invite those you know that could benefit from this ministry. Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve a light supper to all participating; others provide desserts to be served after each session; and others give of their time and talents by providing music for our sessions. If you would like to help in this ministry just call the church office and leave your name, telephone number and the area in which you feel the Lord is speaking to you about serving.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY’S
EIGHT RECOVERY PRINCIPLES

The Road to Recovery
Based on the Beatitudes

Realize I’m not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable. (Step 1)

“Happy are those who know that they are spiritually poor.”

Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him and that He has the power to help me recover. (Step 2)

“Happy are those how mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control. (Step 3)

“Happy are the meek.”

Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust. (Steps  4 and 5)

“Happy are the pure in heart.”

Voluntarily submit to any and all changes God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects. (Steps 6 and 7)

“Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires”

Celebrate Recovery
Opportunities for Service

Celebrate Recovery (CR) meets every Tuesday night and is a program designed to minister to those living with hurts, hang-ups and habits. There are many opportunities for you to help with this program! Desserts are needed for the meal each week. If you would like to provide a dessert one or more weeks, please sign up on the board outside the church office. We must be prepared to provide a nursery each week. If you are willing to volunteer to provide nursery support one week each month, please contact Betty Moye.

Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others when possible, except when to do so would harm them or others. (Steps 8 and 9)

“Happy are the merciful.”

“Happy are the peacemakers”

Reserve a time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will. (Steps 10 and 11)

Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and my words. (Step 12)

“Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.”
