Mission Outreach

Saraland UMC ministers to the Saraland community not only as a
place of worship, but through many local organizations as well.

We sponsor Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops and make our facility available to community groups, such as the Lion’s Club and the YMCA, as often as possible. Below are some of the ways you can get involved to help serve the Saraland and Greater Mobile Community.

St. Francis Street Mission
For years a team from our church has gone into downtown Mobile to feed breakfast to the homeless and poor. This team meets on the second Saturday of each month at 6:40 AM and travels to St. Francis Street United Methodist Church's soup kitchen at 15 Place. If you would like to assist this team one month please contact team coordinator Joyce Boshell by filling out the short form to the right.

Greater Gulf State Fair
For over fifty years, teams from our church have worked hard selling concessions at the annual Greater Gulf State Fair. All the proceeds from this project go to benefit missions locally and around the world. This annual mission fund-raiser raises between five to ten thousand dollars each year.  If you would like to volunteer to work in the fair booth, please let us know by filling in the form to the right.

Fill a Bag - Feed a Family

Our church receives requests for assistance every week. Sometimes we can help. Many times we can not. You can help us respond to requests for food by filling a brown paper bag with the items listed below.

1 jar peanut butter
1 jar jelly (any flavor)
1 box instant potatoes
1 bag rice (16 oz.)
1 box macaroni & cheese
1-2 cans of chicken (10 oz.)
1-2 cans tuna
1 can ham (10 oz.)
2-3 cans condensed soup
(i.e. vegetable, chicken noodle)
1 pkg. spaghetti
1 can spaghetti sauce
2-3 cans fruit
6 cans vegetables
(i.e. green beans, corn, peas, mixed veggies)
1 box cereal (not sugary!)
(i.e. cheerios, life, kix, corn flakes)
1 box instant oatmeal
1-2 instant pudding mixes
Juice boxes

Other non-perishable items can be added as space allows. Bring filled bags to the church office. See Betty for more information.

Sunday Fellowship

Fellowship Host/Hostess Needed
There is a coffee and snack table set up each Sunday morning in the rear foyer for our church family and guests. Volunteers are needed to help set-up, clean-up and provide light snacks each week. Juice, coffee supplies and paper goods will be provided by the church. Volunteers need to:

• provide a few store bought or home made “goodies” (donuts, cupcakes, cookies, etc.);
• set up the refreshments and clean up after; and
• make coffee and pour juice into cups.

More volunteers are needed. Please sign-up in the Fellowship Hall if you are willing to volunteer or call the office.

Special
Giving
Suggestions
Many people like to designate their special giving (giving above their regular tithe). If you would like to designate a donation to a special area of the church, here are some areas in need of funds:
  • Celebrate Recovery - Our church offers Celebrate Recovery for those in our community who are recovering from drug and alcohol addiction as well as other hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Money for meals, bibles, and materials are needed. You may also sign-up to provide a meal. Contact the church office for details on how you can help.
  • Capital Improvement Fund - This fund is used for major maintenance items in the church.
  • Youth Activities - This would be used for special Youth events and equipment.
  • Children’s Activities - This fund will be used for special Children's events, playground equipment, furniture and audio/visual equipment for our children’s area.
  • Piano Fund - This will replace the piano in the Sanctuary.
